Classicism is a term used in literary criticism to describe the critical doctrines with roots in ancient Greek and Roman literature, philosophy, and art. Restraint on the part of the author, unity of design and purpose, clarity, simplicity, logical organization, and respect for tradition are some of its characteristics.
